Laura Mazon Franqui

“An internationally awarded classical guitarist who envisions music performance as part of an holistic art expression”
- The Herald, Vermont

Laura Mazon Franqui is one of the preeminent Cuban and Latin American classical guitarists of her generation. Her musical rise began with numerous accolades and endorsements, including the prestigious Augustine Artist endorsement sponsored by Augustine Strings, positioning her among the world’s finest guitarists alongside legends like Andrés Segovia. She is also a distinguished Córdoba Guitars Artist and Guitar Salon International scholarship awardee, and part of the Tonebase roster of Guitar Mentors, sharing her expertise with a global community of students and aspiring guitarists.

Inspired by Maestro Leo Brouwer, Laura’s musical journey commenced at the age of 10 when she joined a children's guitar orchestra, performing at the renowned Festival de La Habana under Brouwer's direction. Since then, she has developed a distinctive voice in the classical guitar world. Praised as “an accomplished guitarist of Hispanic Latino descent” (Digital Journal), “a fine player from whom great things can be expected” (Albert Kunze, Soundboard Magazine Music Critic), and “evocative and passionate” (Federico Musgrove, Florida Guitar Foundation Executive Director), Laura is celebrated for her unique musical interpretations, technical mastery, and the emotional depth she brings to every performance.

Her career boasts performances at prestigious venues worldwide, including the Mid-Manhattan Library, Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, Gusman Concert Hall, the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center, the Eccles Theater, and Teatro Nacional de Cuba. She has graced major festivals such as the Los Angeles Guitar Festival and Miami International Guitar Festival (USA), as well as Concurso de Guitarra de Costa Rica and Festival Guitarra para Todos in Latin America. Her extensive international tours have taken her across the United States, Spain, Italy, France, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Cuba. In addition to traditional concert programming, Laura has performed interdisciplinary programs combining classical guitar with dance, visual arts, and multimedia projects, further expanding the expressive possibilities of her instrument.

Laura’s discography and collaborations reflect her commitment to diverse musical traditions, including Cuban and Latin-American repertoire, music of Women Composers, and Contemporary Music for Guitar. She has worked with Grammy-winning composers such as Claudia Montero, Carlos Rafael Rivera, and Yalil Guerra, and engaged in innovative projects with emerging composers. She is currently preparing her upcoming album, “Rojo”, to be released on May 29th, 2026, through the boutique classical music label Prima Classic. The album explores the themes of passion, resilience, and cultural identity through vibrant and evocative guitar compositions, drawing inspiration from Latin American folklore and contemporary classical traditions. “Rojo” is intended as a musical narrative that celebrates both the fiery spirit and the introspective depth of human experience, connecting listeners to emotion, color, and rhythm.

Laura has also been recognized as a representative musician and influencer of the Latin music community. She was invited to attend Billboard Latin Music Week and Fiesta Latina by iHeart Radio in 2025, highlighting her growing impact beyond the classical guitar world. Her artistry has been featured on Guitar Salon International (GSI), GFATv, Digital Journal, Voyage LA, Bold Journey, NoHo Arts District, The Vermont Herald, among other media outlets.

A dedicated advocate for female empowerment, Laura actively supports organizations such as Mujer +Cuba, Mujer+Latin America, World Woman Foundation, and Diane Von Furstenberg's In Change Foundation, championing women in music, and more specifically, women in classical guitar. She regularly mentors young female guitarists, providing guidance, career advice, and performance opportunities to emerging artists.

Her contributions to the classical guitar community are further recognized through her memberships in the Florida Guitar Foundation, Guitar Foundation of America, and the American Musicological Society. Laura has served as a jury member for numerous international guitar competitions, including Festival Guitarra para Todos in Guatemala and the National Guitar Competition of Costa Rica, and has been invited as a featured lecturer on contemporary guitar performance practices at academic conferences worldwide.

In addition to her performing and recording career, Laura is an esteemed educator. She has taught at the University of Miami Frost Preparatory Program, the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music (as teaching assistant), and as part of the Guitar Faculty at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Miami Music Teachers Association and as Director of Community Outreach at LACM (Los Angeles Classical Music), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the professional performance careers and entrepreneurial ventures of concertizing classical musicians. Laura has offered masterclasses and technique workshops throughout the USA and Latin America, inspiring a new generation of guitarists.

Laura Mazon Franqui's artistry and dedication to innovation, collaboration, creativity, and education continue to make her a highly sought-after performer, recording artist, and educator. Her mission is driven by a commitment to pushing the boundaries of classical guitar and integrating art, culture, and meaning into every performance and repertoire, ensuring that each note resonates with purpose, passion, and cultural significance.
