Adam Levin
“Adam Levin is an exceptionally gifted guitarist and he played everything in a very transparent and convincing manner… my impression was that the composers were very fortunate to be represented by such an excellent spokesman for their works.” – Dusan Bogdanovic
Praised by The Washington Post for his “visceral and imaginative performances,” Billboard‑topping classical guitarist Adam Levin appears regularly on four continents, with highlights ranging from Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Washington’s Kennedy Center to major halls in Spain, Italy, Germany, Israel, China, Brazil, and Colombia. His live performances are frequent features on NPR’s Performance Today, Classical Guitar Alive, and leading U.S. classical stations.
A passionate champion of new music, Levin spent three Fulbright‑supported years in Madrid commissioning 30 Spanish composers—an initiative captured on his four‑volume 21st‑Century Spanish Guitar series (Naxos/Frameworks), whose final release debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Traditional Classical chart. His solo and chamber discography now spans more than a dozen critically acclaimed albums, including Impressions of Spain with The Great Necks Guitar Trio and Music from the Promised Land with mandolinist Jacob Reuven (Duo Mantar), both top‑ten Billboard entries.
Levin’s concert life is equally diverse. Recent seasons featured tours with Duo Mantar, Duo Sonidos (with violinist William Knuth), and The Great Necks, plus appearances for the Guitar Foundation of America, Austin Classical Guitar, and the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. Competition honors include top prizes at Boston GuitarFest, Certamen Luys Milán (Valencia), and Italy’s Gargnano Competition; Spain has twice recognized him—first with a Trujamán Prize nomination (2011) and later naming him Ambassador of Music for the Valencian Community (2020). In 2024 he delivered a TEDxURI talk on classical guitar and community‑based music education.
Committed to social impact, Levin co‑founded Kithara Project, a nonprofit providing year‑round guitar programs to underserved youth in Boston, Detroit, Albuquerque, and Mexico City. Earlier outreach earned him an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship and accolades for work in public schools, prisons, and rehabilitation centers.
A Chicago native, Levin holds three bachelor’s degrees (Music Performance, Psychology, Pre‑Med) from Northwestern University and a master’s in Guitar Performance from New England Conservatory, studying with Eliot Fisk, Oscar Ghiglia, and Gabriel Estarellas, among others. He is Assistant Teaching Professor of Guitar at the University of Rhode Island, where he also directs the annual URI Guitar and Mandolin Festival and the Rhode Island Guitar Guild.
Levin is an Augustine Strings Artist and performs on instruments by Aaron Green, Dominique Field, Greg Miller, and Steve Connor.
