Duo Siqueira Lima

Cecilia Siqueira, from Uruguay, and Fernando de Lima, from Brazil were more geographically diverse in pieces as finely detailed as a Fabergé egg.”

The Siqueira Lima Guitar Duo is today one of the foremost representatives of South American guitar on the international stage. Since 2002, Fernando and Cecilia have established themselves as direct heirs of Brazil’s extraordinary tradition of great guitar duos, continuing the legacy of the legendary Duo Abreu and Duo Assad.

With virtuosity and originality, the duo has performed in over 40 countries, captivating audiences in prestigious chamber music series, classical guitar and jazz festivals, as well as collaborating with renowned orchestras such as the Gävle Symfoniorkester (Sweden), the Orquesta Filarmónica de Montevideo (Uruguay), the Russian Philharmonic (Russia), among others.

Masters of transcription and adaptation, the duo has developed a unique and extensive repertoire, ranging from different periods of Western classical music to the richness of Latin American popular music, with a special focus on Brazilian music.

In recent years, they have further contributed to the guitar repertoire by premiering original works by composers such as Sergio Assad, Marco Pereira, Paulo Bellinati, Elodie Bouny, André Mehmari, and João Luiz Lopes. Among these, two symphonic works stand out as specially dedicated to the duo: the Concerto for Two Guitars and Orchestra Lendas Amazônicas by Marco Pereira, and Portais Brasileiros No. 4 - A Saga dos Violões by André Mehmari.

Throughout their career, they have received distinctions such as the Profissionais da Música Award (Brazil) and the Brazilian International Press Awards (USA).

Through their renowned four-hand arrangement of Tico-Tico no Fubá, the Siqueira Lima Duo has gained widespread popularity among diverse audiences, bringing classical guitar to levels of exposure rarely seen in the instrument’s history and allowing a broad public to discover their work.

The duo’s story began in 2001 at the II Pro-Música/SESC International Guitar Competition in Caxias do Sul (RS), where they surprisingly shared first prize. The following year, they decided to join forces as a duo under the guidance of Henrique Pinto and Sergio Abreu.
