Giacomo Baldelli
“Baldelli seems like he's playing with his whole body, almost like he's on a challenge with his instrument: there's endurance and depth”
- Sodapop
Critically noted as "one of the most complete Italian guitarists of his generation," Giacomo Baldelli is a New York–based artist whose work spans performance, writing, and media. Deeply committed to the music of the 20th century while expanding the 21st-century repertoire for both classical and electric guitar, he has performed across Europe and the United States in venues and festivals including the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Biennale Musica (Venice), Aperto Festival (Reggio Emilia), National Sawdust, Miller Theater, and Spectrum (New York).
A member of Icarus Ensemble from 2006 to 2013, he premiered his project NIDRA — called by The New York Times "a tour de force for electric guitar and video" — in New York in 2015, later presented at Biennale Musica 2018. His three albums include the acclaimed debut Chitarra Italiana del XXI° Secolo (2010), featuring the first Italian recording of Fausto Romitelli's Trash TV Trance, Electric Creatures (2018), NYC Tracks (2022) and Dark into Light (2026).
He is also a leading voice in Italian music culture, hosting the podcast Chiamo Dopo (2019–2023) and authoring three books, most recently Adesso Potete Applaudire (Arcana, 2025). Baldelli earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees summa cum laude from the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali "A. Peri" in Reggio Emilia, studying with Claudio Piastra, Vladimir Mikulka, and Carlos Bonell. He is on faculty at the Collegiate School Music Conservatory and Cornelia Connelly Center in New York City.
