Marina Tomei
Classical guitarist originally from Rome, Italy. She began studying guitar with Maestro Bruno Battisti D’Amario, the historic guitarist of Ennio Morricone. She continued her academic training in Florence as a scholarship student at the Conservatorio di Musica “Luigi Cherubini”, where she studied with Maestro Francesco Cuoghi. She completed her undergraduate degree under Maestro Arturo Tallini at the Conservatorio di Musica “Santa Cecilia” in Rome. She attended international advanced training courses with Ricardo Gallén, Dušan Bogdanović, and Magnus Andersson. She was selected to study at the Aspen Music Festival and School under Sharon Isbin, and at the prestigious Accademia Chigiana in Siena under the guidance of Oscar Ghiglia.
Marina Tomei has performed recitals in Italy, Spain, Ireland, Mexico, Cuba, the United States, Bahrain, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador, appearing in major venues such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Auditorio Nacional(Mexico), the Auditorio San Felipe Neri (Cuba), Columbia College (United States), Castel Sant’Angelo, the Museo Napoleonico, Teatro Verdi, and Teatro Puccini (Italy), among others. She has also performed in a variety of chamber music settings with soprano Lourdes Ambriz, the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, and mezzo-soprano Guadalupe Paz.
She also collaborated with the MNT (Musica e Nuove Tecnologie) Department in Florence for the premiere of multimedia works in several venues, including the Fonoteca Nacional (Mexico City) and in Florence, within the context of the LDMAC Program of the Youth Festival Orchestra.
Recently, she had the honor of giving the American premiere of Germaine Tailleferre’s Concerto at Sala Nezahualcóyotl, accompanied by the Orquesta Juvenil Universitaria Eduardo Mata. She has also appeared as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, the State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, the State Symphony Orchestra of Puebla, and the Sonora Philharmonic Orchestra; and with several chamber ensembles such as the Havana Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Universidad Michoacana, the Zacatecas State Chamber Orchestra, the IUBA Chamber Orchestra, and the Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes.
She regularly appears on national television (CNN, Canal 11, Televisa, Rai) and in radio recordings (IMER, Radio UNAM). She is frequently invited to serve as a jury member in international competitions. She completed her second master’s degree at the Accademia Internazionale di Imola under the guidance of Arturo Tallini, Giovanni Puddu, Marcin Dylla, Giulio Tampalini, and Matteo Mela.
She is currently a guitar and chamber music faculty member at the Faculty of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she also completed—on scholarship—her Master’s degree in Musical Performance under Maestro Juan Carlos Laguna; she also holds a Doctorate in Musical Performance from the same Faculty.
Her first album, Alma Antigua, was recently released by the record label Stradivarius and is distributed by Naxos.
